Despite the hardships experience by
Zimbabwean’s, and indeed, Bishop Kadenge himself, the Bishops
message was one of hope – of fighting injustice with love rather
than guns!
The Reverend Dr. Bishop Levee Kadenge is
currently Chairperson of Christian Alliance (Leaders of the various
Christian Churches). This organisation came into being
because of the extraordinarily difficult social and political
situation in Zimbabwe. They felt the Christian community had been
very quiet while the ordinary people’s democratic space was
shrinking by the day. Christian Alliance offered to speak on
behalf of the silent majority against the social ills of the time,
and Bishop Kadenge was chosen as its
Convenor.
Bishop Kadenge had prophetic ministry outside
the church during the height of the political crisis in Zimbabwe
speaking out against the Zimbabwean Government’s cruel oppression
of its people. But by being critical of the President, he ended up
in custody a number of times.
In mid 2009 Bishop Kadenge resumed full
ministry in the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe as a lecturer at the
theological college. He was invited to pioneer a subject,
Religion and Current Social Issues (RCSI), to share his experiences
with Christian Alliance, and the imperative for the church to
engage with contemporary social issues.
The Bishop’s visit is part of a three month
sabbatical sponsored by key Uniting Church supporters. He is
currently continuing his tour of Australia delivering his inspiring
message of the hope that is to be found in Jesus
Christ.
